  • Core Exercise Training

Core exercise training works to strengthen the body helping to improve movement and reduces the risk of injury in the future. The "core" is a group of different muscles that work together to give maximum stability in the abdominal and lower back area as well as co-ordinating spine arm and leg movement. When these muscles become weak it can lead to incorrect movement and pain.

For strength training exercises to be performed correctly, a strong core is essential. Core exercise training works on targeting these specific muscles.

Low back pain is often associated with poor core stability or muscle imbalance in this area; therefore core exercise training is one of the main focuses of low back pain rehabilitation.

Core exercise training initially involves 'switching on' your core muscles- you will learn to contract the deep muscles stabilising your spine which can require a lot of concentration and perseverance. Once you are able to contract the deep muscles your physiotherapist will develop your exercise training to build on endurance and functional tasks incorporating all the core muscles.
